not-so friendly Stadion der Freundschaft

By: Porter | Comments No Comments

Schalke and Energie Cottbus matches last year were completely “night and day” with both clubs winning at home. Lausitzer were not very friendly winning 1-0 at Stadion der Freundschaft but in May Schalke demolished them 5-0 with Kevin Kurányi netting the final four goals.
Although Energie sits at the bottom of the Bundesliga table, their performances [...]

Schalke 04 dominates KSC

By: Porter | Comments No Comments

Schalke answered Fred Rutten’s call to arms with a definitive 3-0 defeat of Karlsruher SC. The victory ends a twelve year win-less streak at Wildparkstadion and keeps Schalke four points behind first-place Bayer Leverkusen (who coincidently maintained the Werder Bremen “new blogger curse”).
Schalke came out looking like a completely different squad from the weekend and [...]

if only it was snowing in Karlsruhe

By: Porter | Comments 2 Comments

Half a days drive south from Gelsenkirchen is one of French Alps best resorts, Courchevel and with Schalke traveling to Karlsruher to face KSC, the match would have been a perfect stop in a road-trip. Arminia Bielefeld has had a rough going in the Bundesliga over the last few years and are typically fighting to avoid relegation each year. However to their credit they have been able to do so by battling each match down to the wire or appropriately, precisely the opposite of weak effort that PSG put [...]

take that weak stuff out of here

By: Porter | Comments 3 Comments

Seriously, what was that?
I was primed and ready for a tough match, expecting to see PSG roll into a defensive marking system with Claude Makélélé in-charge but instead they played the match using substitutes. Left out of their normal lineup from my notes were Claude Makélélé, Guillaume Hoarau, Stéphane Sessegnon, Ceará, Zoumana Camara and [...]

PSG comes to Gelsenkirchen

By: Porter | Comments 1 Comment

The group stage of the UEFA Cup is about to set sail with the opening match in Gelsenkirchen against PSG.
Publicly Schalke is saying all the “right things” with the standard complimentary talk of the opposition and referring to their experience and pedigree. However it is very clear to even a casual observer that Fred Rutten [...]
