defending the priority against Hannover
By: Porter | January 30th, 2009The new season begins this weekend and Schalke need to put the disappointment of first half behind them and climbing up the table. Seventh place isn’t acceptable in Gelsenkirchen and Fred Rutten has been working diligently to get goal production up during the break. Starting with Hannover 96 this afternoon, those efforts will be tested.
Fred Rutten will miss Jermaine Jones and Orlando Engelaar to suspension in addition to Christian Pander and Levan Kenia to injury.
Continuing the theme of defending as a priority, the manager expressed concern of Hannover’s attacking options:
“If Hannover are given space, they’re capable of playing some really good football.
“The first game is very important for Hannover. I expect them to adopt an aggressive approach and battle hard for 90 minutes.”
Hannover has their leader goalkeeper Robert Enke back but missing Chavdar Yankov, Vinícius and Jan Schlaudraff. Based upon Fred Rutten’s comments and previous tactical play, if you are a fan of tight defensive play, you will love this match.
