Die Arminen will be tougher than PSG
By: Porter | October 24th, 2008Arminia Bielefeld has had a rough going in the Bundesliga over the last few years and are typically fighting to avoid relegation each year. However to their credit they have been able to do so by battling each match down to the wire or appropriately, precisely the opposite of weak effort that PSG put forth this week in the UEFA Cup. While they sit near the bottom of the table, they definitely have improved this year opening up with draws against Werder Bremen and Hertha Berlin, followed up with a 4-2 loss to Hamburg in which Martin Jol’s club had to come from behind to win. With the exception of last weeks 4-1 loss to Wolfsburg, they are not only capable of pulling off an upset but also seem to play up to their opponents.
With Arminia Bielefeld’s visit to Gelsenkirchen this afternoon, Fred Rutten knows they will apply a “defense first” approach adding that if they can break-through PSG defense, they can handle this challenge. Arminia Bielefeld will be missing Rowen Fernandez, Nico Herzig, Rüdiger Kauf, Michael Lamey and Andre Mijatovic. Manager Michael Frontzeck will come out in the following 5-3-2 formation:
Dennis Eilhoff
Markus Schuler, Radim Kucera, Rüdiger Kauf, Nico Herzig,Markus Bollmann
Alexander Laas,Thorben Marx,Robert Tesche
Artur Wichniarek, Christopher Katongo
The major concern in this match is obviously the short rest period between the PSG match however
Fred Rutten has said that the club immediately dealt with regeneration and is known for having some of the best facilities in that area in the sport. There have been no reports on injuries or possible deletions since the PSG match.
Well, enough for that as its time for me to get to my own match. I’ll stop by after to post a review in the evening but lets show your support for Schalke.
