Fred Rutten out of Königsblauen
By: Porter | March 26th, 2009Schalke acknowledged today that Fred Rutten’s reign which started in July 2008 has now come to a close. Originally reported to be effective at the end of the season, the hopeless situation was averted and the Dutch coaches elimination is immediate. Assistants Mike Büskens, Youri Mulder and Oliver Reck will lead on a temporary basis. Since the unceremonious elimination of Andreas Müller as general manager, Schalke has been looking for a replacement with Matthias Sammer, Oliver Bierhoff, Oliver Kahn and Heribert Bruchhagen listed as the top candidates. Most likely, once this position if filled the next step will to bring on a coach.

Trouble is a big understatement. I think Fred Rutten should have been let go at the break. Andreas Müller should have been retained with some changes on how they invest in development of younger players and scouting services. It would like result in a cost savings but they just don’t have enough “eyes on the street.” One rumour right now is Danko Lazović’s interest but without a manager / coach, they likely won’t be able to approach with success. To let go of someone with twenty years was simply idiocy and its obvious how they are struggling to find a replacement.
