Königsblauen need a reaction

By: Porter | March 5th, 2009

Following the recent disappointing loss Schalke are in dire need of a strong reaction against Köln in Gelsenkirchen. Pre-match talk by General Manager Andreas Müller and Fred Rutten have dealt with unstable situation and whether both could be let go. While supporters are naturally upset with the present situation, the notion of letting Mr. Müller go would be a serious error. You don’t “buy history” and letting go someone who has been with the club for twenty years is a path that shouldn’t never be tread on.

Speaking to Kicker he urged the club management to decide on his (and Coach Fred Rutten) future:

“Either you continue with us, or you draw the line, but you eventually have to reach the point where this thought process comes to an end and the result is made public.

“There have been rumours here for three months and that does not only damage me, but it also damages the club a lot more.”

Tactically Fred Rutten is very likely to give Danny Latza an early opportunity if not a position in the starting eleven and both Benni Höwedes and Christian Pander are available. Pressure is on Kevin Kurányi to produce after his mid-week stroll on the pitch was well below par. Christoph Daum’s side are in top form, beating Bayern München two weeks ago and have Milivoje Novakovič back from injury.

Excuse me, but just the fact that Andi Müller has been with Schalke for such a long time shouldn’t keep those responsible from letting him go. And Rutten, too.

Don’t get me wrong: Andi has done a lot and a lot of good for S04. He knows where this club is coming from, he joined S04 in 1988 – when we had relegated to the 2nd league for the 3rd time.

But he is responsible for putting together a bunch of players, which has no idea of how to score. Except for headers after free-kicks …

And the coach is responsible for the fact, that he is desperately trying to have success with a 4-3-3 scheme, for which he does not have the suitable players. Especially not in midfield. What brings us back to Andi.

No, their time is over, I’m afraid.

As a response to the whole development of the club, by all means, a good part of the fanside is going to “boycott” the game. They will remain quiet or won’t appear in the first place or will stay away from their to have bear and bratwurst and a good chat.

I agree with you Porter, letting go Müller would be a huge mistake and I think fans would understand that.
As far as Rutten, I know from what you’ve written you’ll help him pack though : )

Schalke and parts of Bundesliga is forgetting history and offend me more and more. You know what I mean with that and I don’t need to go farther because I am fed up with how real supporters are treated. The league is spending more time to people who will never come to a game then ones who come every week and travel with the club.

well maybe Porter / Ollie they should get rid of history (Müller) and bring in someone who doesn’t even want to leave here anymore. That way they will have a lot in common with another team we all know : )

I was just joking but I hope Müller is not let go but I am not confident because many do not respect history anymore and try to make Bundesliga like other leagues.

What has history to do with critically reviewing the work of the sporting director of a club?

    jajaja – very true Helmut.

Never get rid of history. Players who don’t perform and a coach who doesn’t seem to know how to motivate them can leave but Müller should always be a part of Königsblauen.

However Helmut is right, they’ll like get rid of him – that will be shameful.

While Müller has been part of the club for a long time, he is also responsible for assembling the current squad. Is that completely irrelevant in the light of “history”?

Maybe Schalke can give him a job alongside Olaf Thon, just for keeping an accomplished ex-player’s sake.

My opinion is to move out Fred Rutten but keep Herr Müller. Our history binds us together and must never be forgotten. Unless they hire regionally, preferably from within, it would be a horrible choice. Must go – too late with early training tomorrow.
