“the coach has opened the throttle”
By: Porter | January 13th, 2009Speaking via the club-site Gerald Asamoah spoke of the first half of the season”
Q:Gerald Asamoah, is it hard work here in Schalke’s training camp in Valencia?
GA: Of course, the coach has opened the throttle. After all there are targets we want to achieve. And I can feel that everyone is ready to go along, we’re already fired up for the second half of the season.
Q: There have been a few disappointments in the first half of the season…
GA: Yes. We didn’t win some matches we should have won. And then you lose the trust in your abilities after a while. Additionally there were two really poor performances, against Köln and against Manchester City. It was the first time I have seen a Schalke team surrender like that. You could have the impression that some players didn’t know what’s at stake.
Q: There have been a few personel chances since the training start.
GA: Yes, and understandably so. But one shouldn’t make the mistake and blame those players for everything. No one can say that he has played to his best. We didn’t function as a unit, although we can play much better than in the season’s first half. If you look into our dressing room and see the individual players, then we simply have to achieve something. We have a good team, we just have to play to our potential.
